Hi Dave,
I can supply weissenborn sets including baritone sets in medium or high figure. Possibly Master grade sets if available. My flitches are usually 42" with some up to 48" long.

Where in the world can you find wood long enough to build a Weissenborn guitar. LMI, Stew/Mac don't carry the stuff. The sides look like they are about 39 or 40 inches long. Wouldn't mind trying any nice hardwood. Doesn't have to be Koa. Woods like Walnut, Myrtle, & Mahogany seem like nice stuff to use. Can anyone post a few suppliers?? David |

I've got some BRW in a 16" wide plank that will do the job too....heck, that should do it with a one piece back and top....but I don't think any offer would pry it from my hands...

Ironically I just called Allied for this. They have some larger East Indian Rosewood sets that will work, but no mahogany or koa sets. |

What dimensions do you require for your weissenborns? Are there any preferences regarding colour and grain? Set material until recently has been cut mainly for guitars so some flitches been ignored. This was until the name weissenborn came up! Some guidance by you in this area would be greatly appreciated. regards Tim |

I also have some ribbon/curly sapele. The sets measure 8-1/2" X 37". 6 piece set for $150. |

The sides typically need to be about 40-42" for a 25" scale guitar. Top/backs about 35" I don't use a 'vintage' Weiss outline but mine is pretty close in all the major dimensions. I usually get sides at 42" to allow myself some room for error. |

I don't get by the forum much, but can pipe in with some help. I cut Weis sets on order. Backs and tops are cut from the same blank consecutive so they match perfect , sides from the same timber also. Genuine Mahogany and Black Limba are $120.00/set. Quartersawn...I do not sell flatsawn acoustic woods. |

Guys, I really appreciate all the responses!! I'm sure there are several on this site that needed all this info. This is such a great site. I'm pretty new here, and there is such a wealth of information from you people that are willing to share. This is my first attempt on a Weissenborn. Love the sound. Got plans coming from Stew/Mac and I think I better get the ones also from MIMF. Any other input on building this great instrument, please "Chime In"! MANY, MANY THANKS!!! David |
